Many times in our lives we are unable to achieve things just because we weren’t ready to start work on due time and when the deadline gets near, we couldn’t perform better due to time constraints. This is called procrastination. It is avoidance of doing the tasks that need to be accomplished.

Why do we all procrastinate? or Why our brains don’t like to work much on difficult tasks? Well, the list of reasons could be diverse but one of the main reasons could be that our brain despite representing 2% of a person’s total body weight, accounts for 20% of the body energy use. According to research published by Times Magzine under the Exercise and Fitness section, the person uses about 320 calories just to think.

How to Fight Procrastination?

There are many methods to fight procrastination and getting things done in a civil manner. Here we are going to focus only on the Pomodoro method. Pomodoro is a time management method that can help you to increase your productivity.

To get productive with this method you have to repeat these 5 steps in the exact same order:

  1. Select the tasks you want to finish.

First, you have to determine what you want to achieve. Try to make a crystal clear to-do list. Try Eisenhower Matrix to understand which tasks are of most priority.

2. Set the timer

Now you have to set the timer of 25min and promise yourself that you will focus 100% on the tasks you shortlisted and will not get distracted by any external factors.

3. Work Work Work!!!

4. Mark the completed tasks

Another important step is to mark the tasks you have completed in the last 25min. Validate your performance keep a record of what you have achieved and what left. You will definitely get the feeling of accomplishment by doing this step.

5. Give yourself a high five

You did it. you just had the most productive 25min of your day. Now all you have to do is train your brain so it gets ready to repeat this process several times a day. After every 25min of work, give yourself a 5min reward break.
